Bumkins Suction Silicone Baby Feeding Set – Gray
This feeding set helps transition your baby to self-feeding. “The suction base keeps the bowl from sliding or flipping over. Great for use on highchair trays or tables. The bowl is designed with a curved handle that’s easily held by mom or dad to help with feeding. The easy to grip double-end silicone spoon grows with baby – one end is for dipping into purees and the other for scooping solid foods.”

my experience
At first, I loved this feeding set. It was convenient, easy to store leftovers, easy to clean, and suctioned securely onto my baby’s highchair table to ensure it would not tip over. I loved the color too!
It was the perfect portion, and my son would eat from it with no issues. He was never a fan of the spoon, however. I think he only used it a few times. It is very bendy and he couldn’t scoop effectively.
Despite the spoon issue, I loved the bowl.
Until…
WHY I Can’t recommend this Product
My son stopped eating his meals.
At first, he would show enthusiasm in eating. Then, after the first or second bite, he would drop the spoon, turn his head away, and stop eating. I would try and feed him and he would start getting fussy and refuse to eat.
I chalked it up to him being full from snacking all day (This boy can EAT!). I also thought he had started to hate my cooking.
The third time he refused a meal, I tasted the food from his bowl. It tasted intensely like soap! WHAT?!!!
I was so upset. At first, I blamed myself (mom guilt). But then I’m like, why does it taste like soap? My food is the same and tastes fine. That’s when I made the connection. It was the bowl.
The bowl smelled so strongly of soap that I was shocked I didn’t notice it before I forced a disgusting meal on my toddler.
The food I served him was hot. This only served to distribute the soapy taste even more effectively than if the food had been cold.
This company makes a plethora of silicone dishware in every color imaginable. I thought I was purchasing a quality product from a quality company. I was wrong.
Is There a Solution?
I tried contacting the company and did not receive a response.
The Bumkins company does provide “helpful tips” about how to remove odors and tastes from the dishware. Obviously, I am not the only one that has experienced this.
I tried their recommendations.
They did not work. The strong smell (And I am certain that strong soapy taste) is still there.

P.S.
I have lost my faith in silicone dishware.
I am staying true to stainless steel for him from now on.
